Party agents protest, call for cancellation of elections in Akwa Ibom

Some party agents in Unit 17, Ward 2, Oruku Anam in Akwa Ibom State, have called for the cancellation of results in the area.

In a letter signed by the aggrieved party agents tagged ‘Electoral Fraud and Request for Cancellation of Election in unit 017, the agents claimed the exercise was marred by massive fraud, including rigging for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, by the police and other security agents.

The agents gave five reasons why the election in the area must be cancelled, stating that there were no results sheets as it was allegedly removed by the PDP.

They also alleged that the Electoral officials were compromised, having accredited over 50 voters without ballot papers.

The agents alleged that the PDP brought out a huge number of voters’ cards and handed them over to some persons who got same accreditation for the exercise. These, among other reasons stated in the letter, were the reasons the agents said the exercise should be cancelled.

The letter was signed by the agents of the APC, ZLP, YPP, LP, and APGA.

Corroborating the allegation, Honourable Bassey Etienem, who shared a video from his polling unit, accused the men dressed as police and wearing state security tags of working for the ruling party in the state.

Etienem said: “My anger is the security agents assigned to us that I called, and he asked me to send pics and videos, which I did but did not respond. I had to resort to self-help. What if I had died in the process? There was no military intervention from anywhere when we were being brutalized and harassed by the fake police officers. I went into a battlefield yesterday and not an election.”

“Why we endorse Peter Mbah even as Obidients” – Group (video)

As more Peter Obi supporters in Enugu State continue to reject the candidacy of the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in the state, Barr. Chijoke Edeoga, another group of Obidients has intensified effort to completely snuff life off Edeoga’s collapsing campaign.

The group, under the auspices of EnuguDecides, has estimated members of 100,000 and cut across the 17 local government areas.

Speaking during a town hall meeting with members at Nike in Enugu East on Thursday, leader of the group, Hon. Newke Sylvester, said it was not for nothing that the group has endorsed Barr. Peter Mbah, the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in the state.

“We have reasons why we are supporting Barr. Peter Mbah. We have taken time to access all the people who are contesting.

“We agree that all of them are good. But we must go for the best. Mbah is the best. For a man to start out small in the private sector and ascend a lofty position in his industry within a short period of time means that such a man has something upstairs.

“The man who built Pinnacle Oil and Gas is capable of building Enugu State.

“Mbah has all the qualities the Obidients are looking for in their leaders. That is why we are supporting him. That is why Obidients wants him to be governor of Enugu State.

The outcomes of the February 25 elections has upset the status quo especially in Enugu State politics but also left voters with mixed feelings.

While the ballots, probably for the first time, showed that power belongs to the people, the exercises have enthroned mediocrity in the representation. So many candidates whom voters did not know won.

According to Hon. Nweke, the essence of his group’s town hall meetings across the state is to educate people more on the danger of repeating what happened on the last elections. Obidient movement is an independent movement and not a political party, Nweke maintained, added that all true Obidients must focus on choosing the candidates based on character and competence.

Nsuka turns against Edeoga as Comr. Iyere’s speech electrifies voters (video)

Popular humanitarian activist, Comrade Kennedy Iyere, has moved the students of University of Nigeria, Nsuka (UNN) with touching speech and demonstrations against Barr. Chijoke Edeoga, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party in Enugu State.

Iyere, who is widely credited for promoting Mr Peter Obi into a national phenomenon, has endorsed Edeoga’s rival, Barr. Peter Mbah, the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in the State.

Addressing crowd of UNN students on Thursday, the fiery activist insisted that Mbah is the best candidate who represents the competence, character and capacity Peter Obi sings about.

“Barr. Peter Mbah has capacity, he has character; he is competent. He is the only candidate who can put Enugu State on world map once he becomes the governor.

“Mbah built Pinnacle Oil and Gas, one of the largest oil firm in Africa. Even as fuel pump price across Nigeria is over N300, Pinnacle Oil still sells at N180 per liter.

“But Barr. Chijoke Edeoga is the opposite; he is opposite of all Peter Obi stands for. He has no legacy.

“Edeoga has been in active politics since 1997. He is journalist, but he failed there. Edeoga is a barrister, a profession he also failed at. Everything he touches fails.

Edeoga had been riding on the violent waves of the Obidient movement, intimidating his major gubernatorial contenders before Iyere collapsed Obi’s coalitions under the LP governorship candidate.

Comrade Iyere also gave N400,000 each to two physically challenged students who attended the event.

Reactions as Obidients movement abandons Edeoga, endorses Peter Mbah

Mixed reactions has continued to trail Barr. Peter Mbah’s endorsement by Obidient movement.

Mbah, the 2023 governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State was, Tuesday, endorsed by groups of Peter Obi supporters led by ace humanitarian activist, Comrade Kennedy Iyere.

Iyere, speaking at the ceremony held at home country of the former Governor of Old Anambra State, chief Jim Nwobodo, said the movement is supporting Mbah because he (Mbah) is competent and has capacity to lead the state.

“We stand here today to identify with you, Dr. Peter Mbah. The potential that you have, has compelled the Obidients to come to you. You are going to be the next governor of this state because you have all it takes to lead the state well.

“The competence that spoke for Peter Obi is now speaking for Peter Mbah. The capacity that speaks for Peter Obi also speaks for Peter Mbah. Peter Obi built Fidelity Bank. He also built Next Cash and Carry.

“Peter Mbah built Pinnacle Oil and Gas. He also built other successful businesses. Anybody that has not built anything is not fit to govern one of the greatest Igbo states,” Iyere said.

Iyere’s endorsement has sapped energy off Labour Party in Enugu and collapsed the support base of the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Barr. Chijoke Edeoga.

Analysts have agreed that the LP standard bearer would have defeated his rivals had the election held las Saturday because of the bandwagon effect of Peter Obi.
