Police arrests LP supporter who tweets against Gov Soludo

Police in Anambra State have arrested a suspect, Nnamdi Chude, for tweeting against Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

Chude, a fervent supporter of the Labour Party tweeted on Saturday, alleging that Soludo’s party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, was involved in the rigging of the House of Assembly election.

He insisted that Soludo was instrumental to the rigging, and that some thugs carted away ballot boxes. He described such action as dragging Anambra back to the era of former governor, Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju.
Chude was later arrested in Onitsha by police operatives and moved to the state capital, Awka.

Meanwhile, a message by the Press Secretary to Anambra State governor, Mr Christian Aburime avowed that the suspect has been moved to Abuja on Sunday, and that the governor neither had a hand in his arrest nor aware of his crime.

Aburime said: “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command has confirmed to the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, that one Mr Nnamdi Chude was arrested yesterday (18/03/23) in Anambra by the Cyber Crime Unit of Interpol and taken to Abuja today (19/03/23).
“Anambra State Government has no information about any specific allegations or basis of his arrest.”

From results already declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Governor Soludo’s APGA won a majority of the state assembly seats in the state, followed by the Labour Party.

Party agents protest, call for cancellation of elections in Akwa Ibom

Some party agents in Unit 17, Ward 2, Oruku Anam in Akwa Ibom State, have called for the cancellation of results in the area.

In a letter signed by the aggrieved party agents tagged ‘Electoral Fraud and Request for Cancellation of Election in unit 017, the agents claimed the exercise was marred by massive fraud, including rigging for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, by the police and other security agents.

The agents gave five reasons why the election in the area must be cancelled, stating that there were no results sheets as it was allegedly removed by the PDP.

They also alleged that the Electoral officials were compromised, having accredited over 50 voters without ballot papers.

The agents alleged that the PDP brought out a huge number of voters’ cards and handed them over to some persons who got same accreditation for the exercise. These, among other reasons stated in the letter, were the reasons the agents said the exercise should be cancelled.

The letter was signed by the agents of the APC, ZLP, YPP, LP, and APGA.

Corroborating the allegation, Honourable Bassey Etienem, who shared a video from his polling unit, accused the men dressed as police and wearing state security tags of working for the ruling party in the state.

Etienem said: “My anger is the security agents assigned to us that I called, and he asked me to send pics and videos, which I did but did not respond. I had to resort to self-help. What if I had died in the process? There was no military intervention from anywhere when we were being brutalized and harassed by the fake police officers. I went into a battlefield yesterday and not an election.”

Reactions as Obidients movement abandons Edeoga, endorses Peter Mbah

Mixed reactions has continued to trail Barr. Peter Mbah’s endorsement by Obidient movement.

Mbah, the 2023 governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State was, Tuesday, endorsed by groups of Peter Obi supporters led by ace humanitarian activist, Comrade Kennedy Iyere.

Iyere, speaking at the ceremony held at home country of the former Governor of Old Anambra State, chief Jim Nwobodo, said the movement is supporting Mbah because he (Mbah) is competent and has capacity to lead the state.

“We stand here today to identify with you, Dr. Peter Mbah. The potential that you have, has compelled the Obidients to come to you. You are going to be the next governor of this state because you have all it takes to lead the state well.

“The competence that spoke for Peter Obi is now speaking for Peter Mbah. The capacity that speaks for Peter Obi also speaks for Peter Mbah. Peter Obi built Fidelity Bank. He also built Next Cash and Carry.

“Peter Mbah built Pinnacle Oil and Gas. He also built other successful businesses. Anybody that has not built anything is not fit to govern one of the greatest Igbo states,” Iyere said.

Iyere’s endorsement has sapped energy off Labour Party in Enugu and collapsed the support base of the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Barr. Chijoke Edeoga.

Analysts have agreed that the LP standard bearer would have defeated his rivals had the election held las Saturday because of the bandwagon effect of Peter Obi.
