Violence escalates in Ondo ahead of the October 10 governorship elections in the state.
Suspected thugs on the payroll of All Progressives Congress have just murdered another 3 persons, and burnt over 20 campaign vehicles belonging to the PDP and ZLP candidates.
The APC candidate, governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo is facing tough reelection. Almost all recent polls indicate that he is threading far behind his two major contenders, Eyitayo Jegede of People’s Democratic Party and Agboola Ajayi of Zenith Labour Party.
“This time it is the governor that is encouraging violence and that is disappointing.
“Another three people have been killed by APC thugs under the governor and I don’t think this is good for his image,” ZLP candidate told journalists.
Police is on the side of gov. Akeredolu and, so far, not even a single thug has been arrested. Instead, it is about 50 innocent supporters of the opposition parties who have been arrested.
INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, gives hint that the election may be cancelled because of the situation in Ondo.
“If anything happens to me before and after the election, our people should know who to hold responsible,” said Jegede who was ambushed by APC thugs.
